When an Original Equipment Manufacturer specializing in meat processing equipment needed a solution to help position the cutting blade with infinite positioning capability, they looked to Tolomatic. The customer was utilizing a manual hand-crank adjustment, which was time-consuming to refine the process. It was also prone to human error.
Tolomatic helped by implementing an electric actuator solution that was capable of connecting to an Allen Bradley CompactLogix PLC utilizing Ethernet/IP. They did this by using an all stainless steel ERD15 electric cylinder with a protective motor enclosure. An Actuator Control Solution (ACS) drive was chosen to provide the customer with the desired infinite positioning capability. The Tolomatic ERD15 protects the motor in a stainless enclosure from frequent wash down cleanings. The ACS with dual Ethernet ports was also easily integrated into the Allen Bradley PLC.
The benefits to the customer were many. Infinite positioning allowed the customer to accurately dial in slice width to eliminate waste. There were a significant savings on cost of meat for end user by eliminating potential for human error making slices too large. Finally, Integration into existing PLC Ethernet network saved design time.
